« Wordpress is cool, MySQL not soo much.

So just a few random things to bring up today:

1. I decided to use feedburner.com to serve up my RSS feeds around here. So you should see the nice little links at the top of the side bar. One lets you subscribe to my feed via your favorite RSS reader (I personally use google reader for that type of thing). The second link allows you to subscribe to my feed via email (so you'll get an email for each new post). It's all pretty cool really, but also depressing as I chose to use the 'counter' version that, as you can see, shows just how few people currently subscribe to my feed (I feel really popular right now!) ... so please (pretty please even) subscribe to my blog feed today!

2. I generally try to think of ideas for technical things to write about a few days in advance of actually writing about them. For example, I'm planning on writing something about Factor regular expressions as well as something about how to build a web site widget. For simple posts like tonights I just throw it together as I think it, but for posts that require some actual thought, I find planning them out works best. With that in mind, and since I have a slight publication background, I started thinking about the idea of an editorial calendar. What I *think* I might do is build a simple widget that shows readers of my blog some of the topics I plan to write about soon. This way I can keep track of the things I want to eventually write about (as I get the time/energy), I can collect feedback, related links, and ideas from my (2) readers before I actually focus on the details of a post, and anyone that cares can also have advanced notice of things I plan to talk about. At the same time that I build out that widget, I can actually write my post about creating a widget (how very meta of me!).

3. For some reason or another the following statement keeps popping up in my head at random times...if I had ANY musical talent I would probably use it as a part of a song...since I don't I'll probably use it as a personal quote for some future writing project:

If I had time, I would waste money.
If I had money, I would waste time.
Since I have neither, I usually waste both!

I didn't say it was a real winner - I just said that it keeps popping into my head for one reason or another. Now your brain gets to nibble on it a little bit Smiley

Kevin Marshall - Who's That?

I'm just your basic programmer. I can't spell to save my life, I'm not the greatest story teller, and I often ramble on about nothing. This blog showcases all of that!
