« Apples are apples are apples ...

I had planned to post about my new found knowledge on various Factor words of importance ( over dup swap nip pick rot -rot roll keep, >r, r>, with-variable set, get, set-global, get-global ), what they mean, and some examples on how to use them. However, I lost a little bit of my steam today dealing with more reviews.com server issues (the servers over there seem to die or go into crisis mode) every couple of months!

In the end, we have the servers back up and running well enough (for what they are used to that is) and I'm spending much of the night archiving data from the main server that was acting up just in case it decides to die overnight (again). I'm pretty sure that the actual server issues are being caused by some poorly written code (either Coldfusion or Java) but to date I have not been able to track down the specific bit of code (yet).

Anyway, it's drained the little amount of energy I had remaining today for computer time and so my Factor thoughts will have to keep until tomorrow. I will at least say that I got some good pointers and help from the guys on irc.freenode.net ( #concatenative channel ) last night. I finally know how to get around Vectors and other sequences (yeah).

Also, I was pointed to some good archived blog posts by some of the guys - of special interest since I also posted about it the other day is a post by Chris Double on Factor's HTTP server stuff (he does a much better and involved post than what I covered so check it out for sure). You can read what he's got to say at :

http://www.bluishcoder.co.nz/2007/11/writing-web-applications-in-factor.html

Honestly everything he's got at http://www.bluishcoder.co.nz is worth a read; and while your catching up on older blog posts you might as well go ahead and read through everything Daniel Ehrenberg has to say on http://useless-factor.blogspot.com (I'm working my way from the first post up to recent times, and trust me he's got some good stuff)

Kevin Marshall - Who's That?

I'm just your basic programmer. I can't spell to save my life, I'm not the greatest story teller, and I often ramble on about nothing. This blog showcases all of that!
